Lee Ann's Weekly Pick & Tips

Increasing the amount you clients spend per year can be one of the easiest ways to add to your bottom line. The program that this hotel used can be easily adapted for your company.

P.S. There are only two other strategies to grow your business - small or large. Used separately and you get linear growth. Used together and you can get exponential growth. Contact us below and we will explain more.

Increasing the amount customers spend
Business: Hotel
Objective: Increase the dollar volume each customer spends per transaction

Solution: After a hotel completed a significant renovation to one of their locations, the hotel sought to drive sales by increasing the average room rate, increasing exposure to all current and prospective guests and increasing the dollar volume of not only the hotel, but the services it offered. The hotel achieved its goals by offering prepaid "Suite Deal" concierge cards to guests who paid $10 for a room upgrade at registration. While the Suite Deal cards included 3 free songs they also served as long-term passports to savings on hotel services. Cardholders were entitled to a 10% discount on food in the hotel restaurant, room service and banquet facilities.

Other perks that came with the card included in-room, bottled water (bearing an Embassy Suites label) and a copy of USA Today each morning. To take advantage of being kept in a receipient's wallet, the marbelized purple card was made slightly larger to sit above other credit cards, ensuring that their logo would be readily seen. Whenever recipients dialed-in to use the card, they heard a six-second audio message that said "Embassy Suites where you'll always get a suite deal. Save this card for future suite deals."

Large placards behind the welcome desk encouraged guests to ask about the Suite Deal before they checked in. For those who did not inquire, desk clerks suggested the offer and outlined its benefits. Business travelers, in particular, rarely flinched at adding $10 to reimbursable expenses for a service that could save their companies money in the long run.

Within a three-month period, the hotel distributed approximately 500 cards. In addition, the hotel ordered another 2,000 cards to fulfill increased demand.
